Driven to unearthing Devon’s Fascinating History.
Devon Archaeological Society is an organisation that provides information and activities on archaeology and Devon’s past. They came to us with the request to modernise the design of their website as well as improve its usability.
The Goal
After speaking with the client and reviewing their website, we could see that their old website was very outdated and needed a redesign to make it more modern and user-friendly. The website aims to not only provide users with information but also to get them to join the society, so during its redesign, we made sure to take this element into consideration.
Solution
After discussing the requirements and elements of the website, we decided the best thing was to build their website in WordPress, which allows them to easily update their own content and images.
One of the big changes we made was improving the navigation from a small sidebar panel to larger header navigation. This not only helped keep the site modern but also helped to benefit users when navigating through the site pages.
We ensured to keep the website eye-catching and engaging by including lots of amazing images of the local area and distributing light colours throughout the website instead of keeping their previous white theme. We also included “Join Us Today” in eye-catching yellow buttons in key positions on the site to encourage people to click on them and join their society.
An important element for any website is its mobile usability, so this was a factor we took into consideration whilst redesigning the website since their previous website needed improvements on this. By making their website mobile responsive, more people are now able to browse their site, which will increase their traffic in the future.
