Spend 5 minutes reading any digital marketing blog, and they will all explain the importance of Facebook and Twitter in your social media strategy (Even we have done it in our social media blog) but these blogs often neglect the importance of Instagram.

Today we are going to discuss why ignoring this image based platform could be a huge mistake for your business.

Okay, okay, we admit that Instagram is not for everyone, however if you want to target anyone between the ages of 16-24 then Instagram cannot be forgotten.

“But why?!” I hear you cry! Well if the 400 million active users (as of September 2015) isn’t enough reason for you then allow me to explain:

What is it?

So before we can discuss why it is important to you, we need to establish exactly what it is! Instagram is an image and video based platform that allows users and small business to share images. This platform (unlike Facebook) does not follow a metric where it will hide your images and website links to potential customers, but instead opts to show them to everyone who follows your account.

It shows your personality.

Nothing is more detrimental to a company on social media than appearing as a Faceless business, that is why posting images and video on Facebook and Twitter has been proven to drive engagement. Instagram is a platform built solely for the purpose of sharing images and video and as such can increase your companies engagement rates hugely. By sharing media based around the people in your company, it shows the personality of your company and that you are not just “another faceless brand.”

It’s easy for Marketing!

Unlike Facebook, Instagram features everything in a list and does not hide any content away from any potential customers. Once you find out when your customers are likely to log on, you can be 10 steps ahead of your competition by scheduling posts around these times to ensure you are constantly in front of your customers and that they are always thinking of your business.

Alongside this, you can pay to drive traffic direct to your website, and with a click through rate of 1.5% (Facebook’s is 0.9%) there has never been a better time to delve into this social media platform.
