Hello, my name is Ellena, and I have just completed a week’s work experience at Daneswood. I am currently a student at the University West of England in Bristol, studying media and communications, and came to Daneswood to learn more about Digital Marketing and gain experience in a real work environment.
The first day was a great start, I got introduced to everyone, took a quick tour of the office, and was shown a plan for the week. I always felt sure of what I was doing and never felt lost or that I couldn’t ask anyone for guidance. Everyone at Daneswood is wonderful; the team is full of hard-working, efficient, kind, and fun people. I settled in very easily and looked forward to coming in every day.
My tasks throughout the week consisted of helping write blogs and social media posts, participating in meetings, and a whole lot of learning! I was taught the key aspects of Digital Marketing, such as SEO, Google and Facebook ads, and the different software used to create these. Digital Marketing is a whole new world in itself that I had little knowledge about beforehand. I was incredibly fascinated with finding out about various aspects, such as the data that online sites collect, the software used for online marketing, and the differences they can make for businesses.
My perspective has changed in tasks like reviewing clients’ websites, where I would not have seen the errors to how I do now. A website I would have said was good before, I now see a potential lack of content, no calls to action, slow Google page speed, broken links, and many more elements that Google and the team may not see as adequate. Little errors like these can make a huge difference to the ranking and traffic a website may get. While this may seem simple to some, this example and many other sides to Digital Marketing have been fascinating to learn about.
I thoroughly enjoyed joining in on their staff and client meetings, which usually take place on Tuesdays. I found that I learned a lot this way, observing how they communicate, the presentation of proposals, and the techniques they use to improve their Digital Marketing.
I’m very thankful to everyone on the team that not only allowed me to join them in completing their tasks but had enthusiasm in teaching me how everything works. Overall, the one downside is that I couldn’t stay longer! Thank you to everyone at Daneswood.
