Ensure your website addresses both returning customers as well as new. Include text and promotions that speaks to both the new and returning customers.

3. Be clear about shipping

Visual Website Optimiser’s 2014 ecommerce report of over 1000 ecommerce websites, found that a staggering 28% of online shoppers will abandon their shopping cart when presented with unexpected shipping costs.

Advice

If you charge additionally for shipping, let your website visitors know as early as possible to avoid unnecessary basket abandonment.

4. Offer Guest Check out

The same report found that 23% of online shoppers will abandon their shopping cart if they have to create an account to checkout.

Advice

Ensure your ecommerce website has a guest check out option available. If you currently do not have a guest option available you could be missing out on an additional 23% in sales.
