Heritage flower breeders with global ecommerce customers

Whetman Pinks are an established client of ours for nearly 10 years and we have grown their digital presence as their business has grown, including supporting them with ongoing Digital Marketing. They are based in Devon and are an award-winning grower and breeder of dianthus pinks and started out by simply selling a limited range of plant plugs online. Now they sell plant plugs and cut flowers globally to both trade and public. They have won the Queen’s Award for Export, several RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medals, had a Royal visit to their nursery and launched a ‘Memories’ flower to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Challenge

We were tasked with designing their latest website as they had diversified into offering seasonal gift bouquets of flowers and taking bespoke growing orders for weddings and parties. They now have a beautiful modern ecommerce shop with cross selling, zoom functions, information pages with videos on how to grow plants, and it is all about the ‘joy’ of the flowers they grow – it also has full mobile commerce functionality throughout.

They have a bespoke customised calendar function for selling the cut flowers seasonally with ‘gift message’ fields when you buy the bouquet. The shop also facilitates gift vouchers along with video and ‘cultural’ information pages on caring and growing their plants.

Going forward Whetman Pinks send out regular email newsletters (that we designed) and we handled their social media while they were at Chelsea Flower Show this year. Their Twitter feed especially sky rocketed when they appeared in a special BBC Chelsea Flower Show TV feature on growing British cut flowers.

Solution

We like to work long-term with our clients and their team. When we overhauled their design we ensured that we aligned their digital presence with their day-to-day job. We looked at their newly developed marketing brochure and worked with their offline brochure designer, to ensure that the online and offline marketing complimented each other, and used existing visuals and assets where possible. They now have frequent appearances on shopping channels such as QVC, and the spikes of online sales that follow are robust. They also have everything in place for a great customer service response via social media.

Digital Marketing

We continue to support Whetman Pinks in the areas of digital marketing where their in-house team need specialist input. We issue social media posts on their behalf and handle their email marketing through Mailchimp. We are also on hand to set aside more support hours for them during a busy sales season, producing spring offers and a Black Friday email promotion at Christmas.
