Hotel website for when steam punk met the north Devon coast
The Bath Hotel were an established client of Daneswood, but then in 2015 they were taken over by new owners who had a completely new vision for what the The Bath Hotel should be. They undertook an extensive refurbishment of the hotel, renaming it ‘The Bath’ with all the luxurious Victorian upholstery and detailing required in a renovation of this hundred year old property, but with a thoroughly modern boutique and steam punk inspired edge. Needless to say the old site was no longer fit for purpose.
We met with the new owner to discuss her vision for the site and started with the creation of a new logo. The Bath liked the Victoriana fonts and b/w illustrations of an older age and wanted that incorporated into the logo. The logo creation went through several iterations because as the design progressed the client wanted to include the Rhenish Tower into the logo. The Hotel overlooks the stone built tower which was has been standing at the harbour edge since the early 1800s and stored salt for the baths. The link with the hotel was unique and so the logo now incorporates a line drawing of this with waves on either side and a Victorian fronds circling the bottom with a bold Victorian font.
The font then carried through into the headers within the site. The Bath commissioned new photography of their sumptuous refurbishment in both the restaurant, bar and entranceway which provided rich imagery for the home page and landing pages. We linked up the website to their 3rd party Eviivo Booking System, and we also coded bespoke custom fields in the back office for maintaining the rooms and menu. Like all good hotel sites, they have good supporting information, with pages on Events, Special Offers and Things To Do in Lynmouth.
The website now represents the steam punk meets Victoriana flavour of the new hotel, while maintaining all the expected room views and booking functionality that modern hotel sites should have. All this in a mobile friendly package that links to all their social media channels.
