We created for Sparkworld a large scale online shop using the Magento 2 open source ecommerce platform, with a WordPress Content Management System for the home page, brochure pages and the blog.
We started by rebranding Sparkworld from an old blue and yellow ‘globe’ logo to a funky new pink and navy blue online brand. The design of the site is completely bespoke (no off-the-shelf theme used here) with WordPress controlling the home page layout so the marketing tiles for the seasonal promotions (so commonplace in the white goods industry) can be maintained and updated by their in-house staff easily.
We reflected in the ‘tiles’ and imagery that they sell quality, branded products with a personal service aspect. We made much deeper use of the home page retail space with uncluttered messages that steer the visitors to the areas of the site that are important for them.
The upper half of the screen houses the ‘product finder’ that filters down the appliance that the user wants, and gets them where they want to go fast as well as a more conventional search bar. The site navigation architecture has a ‘mega menu’ approach with categories and then sub-categories appearing with icons when you hover the mouse over them. Again this helps direct the user to the appliance they need quickly. The custom WordPress design is also shown on the brochure pages such as ‘Showrooms’ and ‘Our Kitchens’.
We undertook this shop overhaul to help Sparkworld convey that they aren’t a faceless call-centre driven national electrical firm with drivers that don’t talk to their office staff, but a friendly, local and high respected white goods business in Devon.
Their new website offers free delivery and a ‘one stop shop’ for installation and removal of old appliances and carries national clout on a local scale, with Price Match in-store and Storage for appliances until they are needed. All in all we created a connected offering between their online shop and offline store, with clearly defined calls-to-action which help make the purchasing process much easier, with a range of standardised colour coded actions for key buttons.
The only reason to undertake the expense and commitment of redesigning a shop and website is to make sure that the resulting site benefits you commercially. We usefully enhanced a stronger focus on larger product photographs with handy icon-led ‘tool tips’, product description and key features. This complete Magento 2 shop is set up with all the ecommerce bells and whistles you would expect, including

Real-time Product Upload
- The product pages are key to conversion so they were designed very carefully, not just to encourage ‘add to basket’ but to feed in product price and stock updates from Sparkworld directly. We created this through a combination of a Magento extension and custom coding. This allowed the site to follow the business process specific to Sparkworld and upload custom product specifications such as ‘in stock’, available to deliver, minimum warranty, key features glossary etc.
Bespoke Delivery Calendar
We developed a complete bespoke system to handle their delivery schedules by van for local customers which acts as a small Courier Management System. The back office system allows their team to create their own delivery rounds and allocate orders to delivery dates from within their showrooms. Additionally, all online orders give the customer the option to choose a delivery date based on van availability for their post code. The feedback from customers has been excellent as it enables them to choose a delivery and installation date to suit them.
Search Engine Optimisation & Digital Marketing
We completed URL redirects from all their old website pages to the new site, in order to transfer across the Google authority their existing site had built up over time. We also completed core SEO, but due to the size of the site and the number of products they sell, we also handle their ongoing SEO each month. This helps to slowly build up their organic rankings. We also manage their monthly ongoing Google Ads, tweaking where necessary and providing them with a monthly report on data gathered from Google Analytics.
As this is a hard working, commercially driven online shop we also handle the website hosting, maintenance and all ongoing support.
