Complete shop redesign for an award winning Westcountry drinks producer
Lyme Bay Winery came back to us after we designed their English Wines website (www.lymebayenglishwines.co.uk). They asked us to completely redesign their current website and we chose the Magento 1.9 ecommerce platform. Having been established since 1993 and stocked by the likes of Waitrose, the client felt it was time for a new website and ecommerce experience which would showcase their award winning products and finally match their unequivocal passion for ciders, mead and country wines. They also wanted to manage all stock and sales via their Sage Line 50 accountancy software and asked us to integrate the site into this as a bespoke development.
In order to create an online shop that matched the offline success of the brand, our web designers envisioned a product-led design with tasteful white space and complimentary brand colours of black, white and gold throughout. From here we set about completely reinventing the ecommerce experience and created a new customer journey that allows drinks products to be sold from the home page, to category level or product page. All drinks have zoomable images, cross selling of products, seasonal bestsellers on the home page and the drinks bottles feature award logos clearly. Separate to the shop they have a great blog that lists seasonal recipes and snippets, plus information pages on their winery. The check-out and cart system allows for discounts on delivery if the basket order value is high enough, and it is fully compliant with ‘over 18’ tick boxes for selling alcohol responsibly.
The client understood that the overhaul required top-quality images and engaged a local photographer to take the beautiful home page shot of their Lyme Bay Winery van driving through the Devon hedgerows. Lyme Bay also gave us new products images when we requested them to ensure that all pages were maximising sales potential.
We performed migration search engine optimisation across the site to ensure that their existing authority on Google was carried over into their new site.
From a back-office perspective we also had the added challenge of full integration with their Sage Line 50 accounting system, where the orders from both Lyme Bay Winery website and Lyme Bay English Wines website, are automatically fed through into their accounting system. The development was an integration with TradeBox Middleware which handled the communication with Sage Line 50. This allowed them to have one central sales and stock management system through Sage.
Their customers can now buy vintage scrumpy direct from the home page, category level and product pages. The shop’s user experience comes with all the bells and whistles buyers expect today, with zoomable images and cross selling throughout. Lyme Bay Winery can now also create time sensitive discounts for marketing promotions, and promote awards and critics quotes against every individual beverage at product level. All of these new digital elements have combined to help increase user engagement and drive online sales.
Lyme Bay Winery have also engaged us to perform ongoing search engine optimisation on their products and digital marketing across both their websites each month.
