Large scale ecommerce ambition with Adwords Support

MA Grigg are an established, friendly, family run country store and restaurant in St Austell, Cornwall whom we support as a full service agency providing website support and ongoing digital marketing. They are a large destination retail space with regular farming and seasonal events and a loyal and well respected following. They also sell online with a client base across the UK, especially London and specialise in supplying quality high-end fashion such as Barbour and Joules, as well as horse saddles, dog kennels, garden furniture and poultry feed. If the item is for farming and country use, then they most probably sell it.

They wanted to update the look and feel of the site and make it mobile friendly, yet keep the Magento ecommerce platform that the shop site was already built on. As we specialise in Magento development, we met with them at their county store in Cornwall and soon realised that their online presence did not represent their offline scale of retail and customer service. They also have a really enthusiastic marketing team, who felt frustrated with the site, and therefore were not all over their digital marketing in the way that they wanted to be.


As the Griggs brand started with ‘MA Grigg’ and then over the years became known as ‘Griggs’ we helped them amend their existing logo with an amendment to the design, an ‘est. 1970’ strapline and set font. We gave them a new logo in all its variations, along with a style guide, so they can now have a consistent brand across both their online and offline marketing.

We then looked to the website and worked with them to completely overhaul the design, starting with a new ‘mega menu’ navigational system that was easy for customers to find what they are looking for quickly within their 10 chosen product categories. Each category now has clear sub-categories, as well as filters (search by Brand or Price for example) down the left hand side of the page. The product pages display large images with ‘wish lists’ and stock availability clearly shown, along with cross selling of items when applicable.

Their secondary menu now has a pages about the company history, promotes the restaurant and has a fantastic new blog. Their digital marketing team can now confidently blog about the constantly changing events at the physical store, alongside trade shows they attend and seasonal events and promotions. As customer service is hugely important to them, we also set up ‘live chat’ so the marketing team can be on-hand during office hours to answer any customer questions online.

From a purely technical point of view we integrated the back-office with their EPOS system too. We also set up all the order information that was taken for their larger garden furniture products to go direct to the garden furniture supplier, so orders could be fulfilled quickly and efficiently. We set up a managed website hosting service for them, as they take a substantial revenue from their website and needed to ensure 24 hour technical support, 7 days a week. We provided training for their staff on all aspects of managing the site and keeping the banners up to date themselves with seasonal product shots and maintaining the blog effectively.


Griggs were a fantastic client to work for, as they know the retail market inside out as well as the expectations of their audience. Fiona and her team made quick decisions, and helped us turn the project around quite quickly, as they wanted the new site up and live for their major trade presence at The Royal Cornwall Show in June 2016. Griggs now can sell nationally, on a fully mobile friendly website.

We still have a very close ongoing relationship with Griggs and they trusted us to help them handle all aspects of their online marketing and advertising spend when the site first went ‘live’ and through the following two years. This was particularly important during the run up to Christmas where we had to monitor their Ads daily and respond very quickly to changes in their competitors’ pricing on key brands. We helped them deliver highly competitive Christmas campaigns or error fixes required within their Merchant centre for their Google Shopping Feed. It was our in-depth understanding of Google Ads – and their constant changes – that really helped drive profit for their ecommerce store at Christmas. Here are some examples how we helped them:
