Supporting the Devon in Sight charity

We recently rebuilt the Devon in Sight website completely free of charge as our way of giving back to such an inspirational charity that helps support people who are blind or partially sighted.

Devon in Sight offer various services to help those with vision impairments, ranging from equipment for the home that will help with their day-to-day life, such as talking scales when cooking or optical magnifiers to help them read, to providing support for carers of the newly diagnosed who need comfort in such an overwhelmingly difficult time. There’s a whole lot more this charity do to help the community in need, such as help with accessing health and social care professionals too.

The website is built in WordPress and at the heart of our design was the considerations for accessibility and the website conforms to WCAG 2.0 level AA and Section 508 requirements. Basically this means it is built for the partially sighted with:

  • Clear large fonts
  • Colour palette is low-vision friendly with strong contrasts
  • Easy to navigate around with proper heading structure
  • Clickable tiles with fairly big icons
  • Tool on the right hand site of the website that allows you to change colours and size of text to suit your needs

We’re so happy to have given back to our local community and partnered with Devon in Sight in designing this site and working with Graham, Julian and the whole DIS team was a real joy.
